Akinlolu O. Ojo, MD, PhD
Dr. Akinlolu Ojo is a Professor of Medicine and Attending Transplant Nephrologist at the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, MI. He graduated from the University of Lagos in 1980 and completed medical school at the University of Lagos in 1985. In 1987, he received his M.P.H. and was a Doctoral Fellow at the Center for International Health, University of Alabama, Birmingham. At the University of Kentucky, he was Resident and Chief Resident in Internal Medicine from 1988-1992. In 1993 he became a Clinical Fellow in Nephrology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, and stayed to complete a Research Fellowship in Nephrology in1995. Dr. Ojo continues his work at the University of Michigan and was promoted to Professor of Medicine in 2005.
Dr. Ojo has had substantial experience in clinical research and has been a co-investigator for five externally funded clinical research projects related to organ transplantation. Dr. Ojo is an investigator with the Scientific Registry for Transplant Recipients (SRTR), Deputy Project Director for the Data Coordinating Center of Adult-to-Adult Living Liver Cohort Study (A2ALL) and Principal Investigator on the Medical and Quality of Life Outcomes of Live Organ Donors recently co-funded by the Division of Transplantation/HRSA and the National Institutes of Allergy, Immunology and Infectious Disease (NIAID). Dr. Ojo has 15 years of combined experience with the United States Renal Data System and the SRTR. In addition, Dr Ojo has conducted many scientific projects on both deceased and live organ donation and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Gift of Life of Michigan (Organ Procurement Organization for the State of Michigan). Dr. Ojo is a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigators and has served as a Principal Investigator on numerous NIH-funded clinical studies since 1995.
As Program Director, Dr. Ojo will be responsible for overall program supervision. He will work closely with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) officials to ensure compliance with program objectives, procedures and policies and operational guidelines.
